ReRack germinated in my driveway, long before there was a storefront. I would find a rack at the thrift store or a garage sale and try to figure out what it fits. When I thought I knew what cars it would work on, I would post it to Craigslist, and to make sure I was right about the fit, I would install it for the buyer when they picked it up. Over time it became clear that installation was necessary with used racks. Sometimes I'd be wrong about the vehicle fit, or the rack would be missing parts, or there might be something wrong with the rack that wouldn't be visible when you tried to install it.
I opened the doors to ReRack in October 2008 in a tiny hole in the wall two doors down from our current shop on Sandy Blvd. This space was all wrong, but customers liked our prices, trading, and free install so much that they continued their patronage. There was almost no parking, often there would be so much stuff, and people crowded into the front room that people couldn't get in the door, and we couldn't get out, but we persevered and grew.
In 2010 we moved to our current Portland location 2240 NE Sandy Blvd. Up to this point, we only sold used parts and new parts we could scrounge up on eBay or local liquidation sales like when GI Joes went out of business. Moving into the new store allowed us to open an account with Yakima and Inno. The goal was not to sell much new stuff but to have everything, so we never had to say no we don't have that part you need to make a trip to REI to make this rack work on your vehicle. ReRack is now a full line dealer for Yakima, Thule, and other rack brands.
In 2014 ReRack opened a warehouse with offices to begin selling and fulfilling orders online. Through our website, eBay, and Amazon, we have grown a great business selling complete racks, hard to find parts, locks and keys, and highly discounted deals on discontinued rack products. We have a dedicated customer support team to answer all your rack questions.
In May 2018, ReRack opened its second retail location at 401 Rainier Ave. in Renton Washington. This store services the Seattle and South Sound area with what we believe is the largest specialty rack shop on the planet! With over 4,000' of showroom, three installation bays, it's warehouse, and parking for more than 20 vehicles. This facility is a candy shop for rack enthusiasts.
