The Yakima PowderHound 6 is the latest iteration of the longstanding PowderHound line, taking the place of the Big PowderHound. It includes locks, universal mounting hardware, and can fit up to 6 pairs of skis or 4 snowboards.
Some assembly is required, but it’s pretty quick and straightforward. A hex wrench is included.
This latest PowderHound model gets upgraded mounting hardware borrowed from the newer Yakima FreshTrack. This allows it to fit round, square, and most factory and aerodynamic bars. Locks and keys are included to secure the handles, and a security tool is used to deter theft of the carrier from the crossbars.
It has a usable pad length of about 22 ½”. This typically holds up to about 6 pairs of skis, but this is an older design, so it might struggle with fat powder skis. It’s not nearly as wide as the latest FatCat Evo 6 which is a full 10” wider. The accessory Ski Lift Kit raises one side of each carrier to increase roof clearance for bulky bindings.
